Since Werewolf: The Apocalypse 2nd Edition, the making of the claw marks has been the trickiest thing to make happen, and these Deluxe W20 Editions are following that pattern. Back then, it was an issue with punching through the layers that make up the cover, and doing that cleanly and having it look like our Garou claw marks, not just any old slashes. I was told that no printer had a die-cut machine that could do it right, and it wasn't until a very clever printer rep in Canada took the idea to a man with a machine that stamped out pieces of leather shoes that we found something that could do the job. That was how we managed to cut the claw marks in WtA 2nd, but for our Deluxe W20 we already had checked out the regular stampers and found them lacking- they could make the holes, but not cl eanly- and there was no way that a regular stamper could do the Heavy Metal Edition. Die-cut technology simply has not advanced much.
So instead we're using frickin' lasers.
Getting those right has taken a bit of time this last month, but we have it now- or at least I think so, but I'm expecting a sample next week to prove it.
