Turanshush (Forge World)
“Please don’t touch that, it’s a derivative of the Karrik Spitting Vine, when stimulated it sprays a corrosive poison that would eat through your lungs in seconds.” – Magos Biologis Xolotl
Looking at Turanshush one clearly sees that this Forge World does not adhere to the constraints and normal rules of a planet belonging to the cult Mechanicus. It is said this is because the Tech-Priests of Turanshush also refuse to conform to the typical image of their chosen path. Their legends say that eons ago, when the Mechanicus was still growing, a group of Magos Biologis in the distant Segmentum Pacificus abandoned their home worlds to follow a single Magos whose name and personality were forgotten, save for the fact that he wore only white. This White Priest spoke with his brethren spreading ideas foreign to the technical minds of Fabricators and Armourers, he spoke about toxins derived from plants, of natural resources harvested from plants, animals and sometimes the very air itself. He quickly gathered a determined group of like-minded men and women who saw the barren landscapes with dread, for they were empty of possibility and dependent on other worlds for existence.
They boarded massive colonization ships, whose designs are still spoken of in reverent tones for their technology is long gone, and after a long trek through the stars colonized the vast and deadly world they dubbed Turanshush. This planet had all they looked and longed for, flora, fauna and a strength comparable to the mightiest machines.
The colonization was long and hazardous, many died as the planet fought back with weather, plants and animals. Poison and toxins killed many. Clearings made a day before were overgrown in the night. Whole settlements collapsed into the earth as their weight pushed through the soft soil into uncharted caverns. But in the end the Tech-priests and their servants won. They built temples to the Omnissiah, huge pyramids filled with knowledge and technology. They cultivated the very land they sought to use. The jungle, once a deadly enemy, became treasure trove of materials. Fearlessly the Tech-priests delved into the canopied hell in search of new plants and animals they could use to further the glory of the Omnissiah. Their search proved fruitful for they found saps, resins and gums that were better than the materials used from refining promethium on other Forge Worlds. With every generation the faithful of the Omnissiah became more and more attuned to their home, and less than their brethren. And where some Tech-priests spoke of a heresy of the living flesh, others saw a bold and blessed proof that even the living world could provide for the glory of the Machine God.
The Turanshush of today is as much the work of the Tech-Priests that settled here, as it is a work of nature. It’s vast jungles are living and untamed plantations overseen by the careful eyes of the Priests of the Omnissiah. And while they can’t really control it, they can move it along desirable lines and harvest it’s bounty when the right time comes. The people of Turanshush are hardy and used to living in conditions so foreign to normal humans on other worlds. Their air is pure but filled with toxins, they see the sun but trough a haze of heat, they live in a paradise that wants to kill them. And they love it, for theirs is a life in a holy crucible where the machine struggles against nature. Through this they forge a faith stronger than steel.
Turanshush PCs
Characters from Turanshush are used to the wilderness and display a familiarity with it striking in the servants of the Omnissiah. Their life was filled with natural dangers foreign to most imperial citizens and as such they often are more aware and wary of possible dangers.
While they are servants of the Machine God, they are removed from the daily routine typical to normal faithful, because of their masters fascination with the living world, this makes them uneasy among other members of the Cult Mechanicus and the servants of the God Emperor alike.
Creating Turanshush Characters:
Use the Forge World template, replacing Fit For Purpose and Credo Omnissiah traits with:
Master of the Living Hell
Every human born and raised on Turanshush has been poisoned many times in his life, the very air of most habs is filled with enough toxins in the air to kill anyone not used to their presence. The weather borders on the uninhabitable for the ambient temperature is very high and humidity rarely bothers to fall below 80%. Anyone not used to it dies from exhaustion.
Effect: Gain Resistance (Poisons) and Resistance (Heat)
Healer & Poisoner
Living in dangerous environments breeds adaptation, only those who can survive. From their birth every member of society on Turanshush is filled with medical knowledge and trained in skills reserved for experts on other planets. The ruling Council of Arch-Priests knows that anyone needing emergency medical assistance can’t wait for a medic on a planet like Turanshush.
Effect: Gain Medicae and Survival as Basic skills.
